After a decade of teaching music in public and private schools, as well as preschools, Kristin decided in 2018 to start her own healing arts business. She began by renting space in another healing center, practicing among a community of independent wellness practitioners.
In January 2020, Kristin debuted her own space and established Elevate Healing Arts in Cromwell. Elevate Healing Arts provides a shared workspace for healing arts practitioners and consultants, a network for professionals who offer their services virtually and locally, and a community center for clients looking to learn and grow through personal development and transformational healing.
How Women's Business Development Council Helped
Kristin began using WBDC’s services in 2020, just as she was launching her business. The organization helped her through the initial stages of building her business plan and provided further support through online classes and group mentoring. Kristin also received the Equity Match Grant (now Ignite grant) in 2022, and used the funds to make several upgrades, allowing her to expand Elevate Healing Arts’ services. Kristin says the organization was particularly valuable during her pregnancy and early maternity, as it encouraged her to ask for help, delegate responsibilities, and avoid burnout.
“Every step of the way, it was amazing to feel I had a strong support team cheering me on,” says Kristin. “I also felt safe surrounded by other women stepping into the entrepreneurial world with a range of experience…I felt that everyone truly had my best interest in mind.”
