Elizabeth “Liz” Bullard, Owner of Ebullard Counseling, has always been driven by an innate desire to facilitate others in discovering their genuine selves and navigating life’s challenges. “Becoming a therapist was a natural calling for me,” she reflects. “I wanted to play a bigger role in helping people discover their authentic selves and empower them to achieve their goals.”
Prior to establishing Ebullard Counseling, Liz put her skills and empathetic nature to use as a therapist at a community nonprofit near her home in Waterbury. Her experience there laid the foundation for her eventual leap into entrepreneurship. “Being a first-generation businesswoman has brought its share of challenges, especially when it comes to battling imposter syndrome and navigating the world of resources and skill-building. But it’s these challenges that make the journey more rewarding.” Liz believes that what sets her practice apart is her collaborative approach, rooted in a belief in empowering clients to recognize their strengths.
How Women's Business Development Council Helped
Recently, Liz set out on a path to blend her love for literature with her desire to help others find fulfillment. The Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) provided invaluable support and resources. She met with WBDC Business Advisors who guided her through the application process for the Waterbury/WBDC Small Business Grant, which Liz received in November 2023.
The grant funds played a pivotal role in Liz’s journey, allowing her to invest in a 12-month coaching course that expanded her business’s scope. Liz shared, “Thanks to the WBDC grant, I was able to expand my business to include nonclinical services. This new side of my business is coaching, specifically working with writers and creatives who want to overcome barriers in a way that helps them have a more robust and fulfilling career where they’re not stifled by imposter syndrome.” As a therapist, Liz could only provide clinical services within Connecticut. However, as a writers’ coach at “Liz Bullard Writes”, she can now offer these new services beyond Connecticut’s borders.
The grant not only facilitated professional development but also enhanced the technological infrastructure of Ebullard Counseling & “Liz Bullard Writes”. Liz’s upgraded tech setup, including a new computer, ensures seamless operations and better serves her clientele. Additionally, she shared “The grant application process was less daunting than expected, I appreciate the support from WBDC throughout the process and even before starting my application.”
“WBDC has had a tremendous impact on me and my business,” she attests. “It has given me the opportunity to expand my services and take big steps towards turning my dream of a business that reaches beyond local and state boundaries into a reality.”
