  • The Backstory

When Liz Ceppos was laid off from her job at a Norwalk commercial real estate firm, her husband, Ian, encouraged her to take time to consider the next step in her career. Before long, the couple was looking to turn their hobby of making kombucha into a business. Cross Culture Kombucha was founded in January 2017 and the couple opened their first brewery and taproom in Danbury in September 2018. They moved to a much more spacious location in November 2022.

How Women's Business Development Council Helped

Liz received an Equity Match Grant (now Ignite grant) from WBDC in February 2022 and used the funds to purchase a keg washer. The machine improves efficiency and decreases the time it takes her staff to wash kegs, freeing them up to spend time on other tasks like product development. She has also participated in the WBDC GPS course, networking events, and one-on-one meetings with WBDC Business Advisors. Liz says WBDC has been particularly valuable in helping her to grow her company in a
    manageable way.

Liz says she was “truly floored” to find out she was a recipient of the Women Rising honor. “I have had my head down—working, working, and working towards all these goals—and I haven’t always slowed down to take in all the fantastic milestones my little brand and business has achieved. Being selected as a recipient of the Women Rising Award has made me slow down, pick my head up, and realize that if others (especially the team at WBDC) have noticed these accomplishments, then I should, also!”
