TORRINGTON – A local health and fitness center, dance studio, music school and law firm each have been awarded up to $10,000 in grants from the Women’s Business Development Council.

It’s all part of a new Torrington-based municipal grants program designed to assist in the growth of eligible small businesses by helping to fund clearly defined projects that can have measurable impacts.

The same program also is being offered to small businesses in Waterbury.

“We want to be partnering with these cities so that small businesses can have a new life and can bring positive movement to the economies of these cities,” WBDC spokeswoman JoAnn Gulbin said. “We have a finite amount of funding for this program and we will continue to give grants until that money is gone.”
