The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced its 2020 Small Business Week Awardees. Of the ten awardees is our Women’s Business Center of the Year, Women’s Business Development Council, Southeastern CT. They are being recognized as a champion for SBA products and services including effective amplification of the SBA mission and priorities and strong education efforts about the SBA and its programs to small businesses.

Our SBA’s Office of Women’s Business Ownership (OWBO) WBC program is a national network of more than 117 locations (4 in CT) that offer one-on-one counseling and training to women seeking to start businesses, grow their markets or expand through federal contracting opportunities or international trade. The WBC program was founded to foster the growth of women-owned businesses by providing access to education, training, mentoring, business development and financing opportunities to women throughout the United States and its territories.

“The WBC of Southeastern CT (SECT), which is hosted by the Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC), is thrilled to receive the distinguished honor of Women’s Business Center of the Year in Connecticut,” says Project Director Laura Stetler.  “WBC-SECT has had an impactful record as a leading SBA Women’s Business Center, championing the economic equity of women.  Since opening its doors in April 2018, WBC-SECT has helped over 1,000 women achieve their dream of launching or scaling their business.  Through innovative entrepreneurial training, counseling, and technical assistance, these women have started 18 new businesses, accessed more than $735,000 in capital, and generated a combined $31.5 million in annual revenue.”
