What is Stamford Doing with $6M+ in Federal Funds? Building a Library Branch, Replacing Streetlights.

A federal funding package enacted at the end of 2022 includes more than $6 million in earmarks for the city and millions of dollars more for nonprofit organizations that have offices in Stamford.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and Rep. Jim Himes, all Democrats, requested the earmarks — also known as “congressionally directed spending” or “community project funding” — as part of the fiscal year 2023 appropriations process which culminated in a $1.7 trillion package that funds the federal government through September.

Beside the funding for the city, Himes, Blumenthal and Murphy obtained earmarks for a number of Fairfield County nonprofits, including $2 million for the Stamford-based Women’s Business Development Council.
