Torrington Business Council Gets ARPA Grant

The city is giving $500,000 in federal COVID-19 stimulus funds to a Stamford-based nonprofit that will disperse the money to Torrington businesses.

The City Council on Monday approved giving the American Rescue Plan Act grant to Women’s Business Development Council. On Tuesday, Mayor Elinor C. Carbone said she signed an agreement to release the funds, adding she was “very excited” about the plan.

The funds will help local businesses get over hurdles caused or exacerbated by the pandemic, Carbone said. They could be used for items such as improving drainage in a parking lot, replacing an aging refrigeration system or a myriad of other possibilities.
