Scantic Valley Farm Owner Gets $10,000 Grant

Nancy Barrett, the owner of Scantic Valley Farm in Somers, was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Women’s Business Development Council, via its WBDC Equity Match Grant Program.

Barrett gave representatives from the WBDC a tour of her farm’s flower operation, including a walk-in refrigerator and the processing room, where the flowers are cut, sorted, and prepared for shipping.

She explained that she and her husband bought the 100-acre farm in 1994 from her grandparents, who started it in 1936. The farm produces tulips, dahlias, sunflowers, strawberries, blueberries, pigs, and cattle, among other products.
