My name is Eva Beau and I am a Norwalk native. I have been teaching American Sign
Language 101 to elementary school students for four years. I was introduced to ASL
over 10 years ago and it has become my passion. In 2022, I enrolled in the American
School for the Death, the first School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut, founded in
1817. I was recently joined the staff at Horizons Summer Camp and City of Norwalk
Summer Camp as well as ASL 101 for adult learners offered by the Parks and
Recreation Department.
Why ASL? I am hearing and believe hearing people should learn ASL. This language
skill will promote communication, understanding and a greater awareness and
sensitivity between the hearing and the deaf communities. Students will develop an
appreciation for Deaf culture as a result of being exposed to ASL classes. Leading to
inclusivity and respect for individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.
I combine interesting and interactive activities that help build confidence and make
learning fun! Miss Eva’s Etiquette Classes help children practice and reinforce the manners they learn at home. The goal is to teach young people respectful social skills so they can thrive with confidence in today’s world. While times may change, the principles of good manners remain constant. My program uses an interactive and entertaining approach to build social and communication skills that help children present themselves with confidence. Through fun games, engaging activities, and social dancing, kids learn modern etiquette while gaining the tools to reduce social anxiety and grow into poised young adults.
